PHILOSOPHY

DUSTIN KLEIN

ON MAKING YOUR OWN PATH

At 21, I was a bike messenger with no plan—just a gut feeling that I needed to create. This video shares the story of how that spark led to a life built on creativity, purpose, and independence.

“I just knew that I needed to create—and that simple truth gave me something I’d never had before: direction.”

STORY

2003

Bike Messenger in SF + Cadence Begins

In 2003, Dustin was a bike messenger in San Francisco when it hit him—people could make things for a living. That realization sparked a wave of experimentation, and one project stuck: Cadence, a cycling apparel brand that blended design, culture, and functionality.

2005

CADENCE COLLECTION

By 2005, Dustin went all in on Cadence, and it became his full-time work. What started as a creative experiment evolved into a cycling apparel brand with cult status—rooted in design, culture, and functionality for people who live on two wheels.

2007

MASH SF

In the mid-2000s, Dustin became an original member of MASH SF, a pioneering fixed-gear collective that redefined urban cycling. MASH SF blended street riding with creative expression, producing influential films and gear that resonated globally. Dustin’s involvement placed him at the forefront of this movement, contributing to a culture that celebrated the raw, unfiltered essence of city riding.

2008

Fast Friday

In the mid-2000's, Dustin Klein founded Fast Friday in Seattle as a monthly gathering to unite the city’s track bike community. By 2008, the event’s influence had grown significantly, leading to the release of a documentary that captured the energy and creativity of Seattle’s fixed-gear scene. The film highlighted how Fast Friday evolved from a local meetup into a cultural movement within the cycling world.
